Was that , like him , they might venture out of the cave.
His biography of GB Shaw
Wouldn't you be glad to have just one friend like Gilbert. One who would tell you what really stinks about what you think; A man who was in love with images, as much as with words ; the world beyond, as much as the world right here .
I love in this book the way Gilbert has a good go at his friend's SHAWS fascinations with all things GREEK . As an environmental sustainability scientist of the 22nd century , I am amazed how this "less than sensitive" critic of science could foresee the century deadening effect on sound science policy that Wells , Shaw and other progressives made by confusing science with technology ;
His friends failed to venture out to study the big picture that Plato described , preferring to spend our taxes experimenting with shadows, speculation and change for changes sake. AS CP Snow also saw, there is more joy in heaven over 2 fighting parties coming together than all the happy huddles in between.

Be angry BUT
"But don't let it show"- This modern, but faulty unwritten reaction, to the epidemic of anger in the West is, at best, unhelpful -More stuffing the problem under the carpet by the see no evil reactionaries and ever revolving revolutionaries.
FIRST -- it doesn't really get to the heart of what anger is naturally meant to do and
SECONDLY --its simply stupid; it stops short of dealing with the issue in any deep way . Such restrictions place a noose around the first neck that reddens: heightening the danger! Creating a criminal out of the first person to deal with it .Anger management talk is a mess; its a mess and mistaken because its shallow rhetoric fails to address real fears emotions and practice , denial and projection issues. Like so much modern medicine it reels out a whole lot of indigestable heal thyself proverbs that some kindergarten class could have listed - you shouldn't do it smack . ( Reactionaries you say ? - those who invent new and better ways to deal with things, but who often only do so by ditching the old )
THIRDLY its mistargeted . In denying sin ,they call a sin what is clearly not a sin
Explain this:
- God gets angry ( at what ) Jesus got angry ( at temple , at tree)
- You get angry ( admit it and you may then find relief!!!) Don't admit it and.....
-The subject is not tabo at all; eg its not listed in the commandments directly as something we should not do - after all, God shows it ! .
--"Be angry, but sin not" ( sums up the clear teachings of all the books ) In other words it can be Ok to be angry , but the danger it brings is the possibility of sin -hit and hurt rather than just argue ( some people are afraid of anger - who isn'T? I ask ? its scary - risky!
- "Don't let the sun go down on your wrath" (Forgiveness -anger is not a problem to a relationship if its dealt with well This is what long happy married' s say !)
- Focus of anger is important ( is the focus on injustice , is it genuine or projecting from something close to yourself???)who knows till you listen? !
- Sitting on it can help us see whether the anger is rightly based ( slowness to anger reflects the hold back we all need to see whether we are tired , genuine, personal or projecting, or whatever else can drive it )
-This is a big subject and those who feel I am wrong to state some boundaries do, i agree, need compassion and ALSO need to be convinced that understanding it differently helps deal with it better - maybe you know a better site than this , Please drop us a blog .
Remember and read about Jesus. That will calm you down .Read Luke or John: Its not easy being treated badly, or put in a box. But don't bottle up your emotions because the modern mixed up mind set ( all things are of equal value - Thankfully those who TH do not dine on the volumes of equal garbage value that seems to delight " the greeks" amongst us ) tells you what is not a sin, is a sin.
It the New answer works, why do people still cringe for no reason? If the sin is to let anger show and not letting it out is alo a sin we have a state more dangerous than it needs to be - the traditional view matches the modern pyschology view - pity the people haven't twigged they are on the daily drip feed instead of the daily release
