So what is so wrong about thinking Greek ?

 

So what is so wrong about thinking Greek ?  Nothing except it's too long winded to be helpful sometimes.  

-when we have other work to do 
-when we need to test things and avoid procrastination   

I am writing this short note on the eve of New year 2025 because I have referred to the great story and musical of FIDDER ON THE ROOF a lot recently.
It's a story of great hope and faith for our age where we so easily get lost in the voluminous and confusing screen talk of Christmas and the information age. 
  





That story symbolizes what Eistein summarized when he said the most kindest thing about good thinking ever. The Greek introduction to his statement could have been " That all things considered +100 pages ( at the very shortest) we only have one choice . "Either life is a miracle or it is not "

I use Greek thinking to solve problems at work especially those related to the complex interactions in the  environment .
The main problem is not greek thinking but the modern mistake and heresy of expecting it to solve all problems - you could be in a box before any conclusive citations are given . Life is too short for that blinkeredness. See Whiteheads summary of the debilitating disease of our era and Jung for the summary of the debilitating diseases of the human mind.  
If you haven't already done so,  try testing the idea that God your Creator's cares for you and,  miracle of miracles ,  if you really want to get adventurous, he is listening . 
This idea is of course mind blowing but if its true , you can and should test it .

Jung reminds us that the only problem really is still us and what we do with this machinery within .

It's not my problem God

 You say it's not your problem, but I bet it is 

You may well find what follows confusing because I will assume, unlike many others that our Creator is involved and our denial of our need to properly relate to Him/Her is at the core of solving human dilemmas. 

I am seeking common ground to start with ---

Do we not agree that we both think we put science first ?  I will agree to that 
What about the science of the human mind . I am a, for simplicity , going to stick with Jung. 

Objectivity about what happens in our minds 
One of the ways to get objectivity about our ability to influence change ( power ) is for us to say that we do not have any. That way, if we are genuine about changing the situation ( and not just making nice noises about it ) we start without any preconceived ideas about what we can or should do about something . 

Jung will tell you the only problem is to do with human nature! so lets see if we are avoiding or facing the real problem.

Take the case that we are exploiting fossil fuels at a rate that will not leave much for our children .The problem is greed .  So let's see if we are solving that . 


Do any of the current suggestions about what we should do about that make any sense to you ? Whose problem what problem? 
A question for you -- if you think thinking matters  . Is there confusion about what governments are trying to do or not ? 
Somehow the thinking has moved from the ACTUAL issue of Greed above to doing something about the invisible thing called the ATMOSPHERE

Whose problem is it then ? 
Lets go back to Net zero ideas. ( believe me the definition will change and so will the direction of mis investment)      Its not clear to me that the connection . political objective or the solution makes sense . 
 
Any decent physicist will tell you there will be no problem solving while we mistarget the problem - Tell me we as a society are not rebadging the problem , not to focus on  fuel use ,  but the effects of burning fuel  ie C02.  Its so confusing that its intellectually unsustainable ,20yrs of unresolved argument. 
The physicist's say the connection is not clear
Any decent thinking person will then tell you that any solutions invested in that doesn't deal directly with the real problem will fail. Obvious enough 

Thank God it's not your problem , or is it? 
Are you facing up to the purely human problem as Jung is asking us to ? 
Jung will tell you the only problem is to do with human nature!
and you won' t solve anything if you don't face that ,
If he is right the problemis  therefore not primarily a technical problem but one of changing human behavior. 

You THEN say governments must be tyrannical in this ? 
That makes you a tyrant . Even God isn't a tyrant 

Sounds like You have a problem . It even sounds like you think its your job to play god . 
I wonder what Jung would say about that ?

Any God botherer will tell you that it's really weird and irrational when people who don't believe in God ,or  try to please god then try to be god in changing the atmosphere .
I thought you thought we humans were mere puppets ,? 
Why should any of us act responsibly - too whom .such ideas are very esoteric !
Where did you get the idea that we are responsible for stopping greed,  let alone could do it?

I get it-- worrying about CO2 means we don't have to solve the real problem we can't solve - greed????


Many have solved the problem by placing it in a category where it no longer annoys them?????

Honor the Queen

 Queen Elizabeth died this weekend 

Honor all those in Authority and surprise  surprise  - we  will all end up knowing honor as glory and sunlight in the dark places of life . 


The Hebrews , for all their sound faith times , were as big a failures  and just a thick as any of us .They too wanted a king they could see and touch . 
 The point is,  they wrote down  and did what their experienced leaders learnt , whether it was" judging" from the Egyptians, or "order" in babylonia , or just  failure love and acceptance from above . 
 They  were spared our nonsense   they are not as mad as us-  trying to claim the honor of the gods of technology or progress.
They finally learned that the ultimate honor goes to our Creator and Redeemer. 

Haven't posted here for 8 years . I am posting because the common people of the Western World have had the chance to remind the progressive's they are as backward as anyone can be .
As was recorded various time is the good books,   all it takes is a woman or a child to break the spell of pride to remind us that , unless we follow the gist of the commandments,  we live in deepening darkness.

 The whole world this week honors a  happy woman  whose life is an absolute  antithesis to the progressives  gospel of all good comes to those who grab , or make fun of those who serve.

Nobody wants to think anymore

The early Christians  provided a solution to a problem the old world didn't think it had .
The old greeks used to think too much .
Our new world doesn't know what problem its got --even now -But let me suggest - it thinks too much !

 The people have finally realized that the rationalists in charge are not resolving the challenges they have busy talking about . In a technological age what works is thrown out  and people are throwing them out.
The people are rebelling - yet again !   The people are not going to take lectures about how it all works -- when it doesn' t. The Greens may go on, but ....excessive talk is the problem and they have it as bad as any ,  Pauline and Trump are on the money in talking resolution not waves and waves of rationale  .
Doesn't  mean P &T  make any sense -- which is my point.  No one who talks about reason makes sense .  The length of the argument doesn't matter . If there is any quality in the logic,  that too does not matter if its not working .

Question:  Do the new leader types assume the solution is about " more money "? ,When they don't they are ahead of the game because they are saying society must change direction,  not where it spends the limited tax base.
Thankfully,  we have centuries when  any reversion to this old heresy( that we have found the tree of knowledge of good and evil) has been followed by a big gasp of fresh air  from outside.
Shakespeare teaches us how to laugh again at those who presume to know things and do things , He reminds us about the terrible state of man where he believes his garden is like one on Monty Don's. when its really fulla weeds  
Luther does the same to the law overload days of his day when he reminds people they can just learn for themselves about what matters in life.  The test of any faith is " Does it work?"  The house of words is a house of cards.The house of logic around those words is always a little limited.

The ABC of course will be the last of the dinosaurs to go extinct because they have the floor on wired up connection devices -- they have been talking at us at our expense for decades .Not just words but clumsy connections : connections that deeply offend scientists like myself ( Qanda with Barnaby May1)
Prof Brian Cox will talk about the wonders of the universe without daring to mention the possibility of a creator - its in his brief to wear blinkers so that noone in the congregation can too excited about anything but straight laced determinism. Nice and tight ; the right facts - the right interpretation of those facts.
I like Chesterton's idea of giving a myriad of untidy associations a single mystic name -( something to do with the grace of God  for eg) saves much speculation and going around in circles .
 The ABC  have a stake in maintaining their own rigid place and position  - lengthy inconclusive reasoning suits their eternally funded schedule . Such is their silly scientism that when we say "we are not content with facts " they will make us wait for conclusions. Noone is in any mood to wait, except those on the public payroll . ( pretending to do science )

Frustration is one thing , but what does it take to get a Trump type character over the line ?
 The old ABC claim to "have things on the highest authority " doesn't wash well when all we have is more and more data collection and review .ABC journos will quote a  modeller without realizing that even their local doctor would be dismissed if that was all he talked about.
When they trump before us the same old gurus to summarize the same old case
We get  Flannery flailing around yet again on the disaster trail -compounding disasters of wait for --dead coral  and together
Di Natale and his "hot seas" , These SA's  know how things  work ---- we don't think.

So how do you get the people excited ? ,
Maybe
A You provide them with a simple solution . You tell em "Don't think about it"  -
B You start believing your own bull  "That stuff is all mind construct and unworthy of a progressive" Sure it goes down well till you realize that such inadequate logic undermines everything YOU say too .

 This is whats left of the left in 2016 . The left have finally got the rewards of all their shallow determinism. Limited logic and lumbering logomachy ( although the ABC just cut the discussion off - not like here!)
Just lie back and let your lizard brain tell you whats next?  , You don't or want to have choices or ,,,at least more than one this weekend.

Stupid science

Many of our universities in Australia are becoming irrelevant .  They neither believe or trust in cutting edge science. They describe things but don't know things - that is well enough to describe them succinctly and functionally  .They often just pretend to practice it ----from sociology through psychology to biology and beyond .
The people who run and teach in some of these reactionary learning places clearly tell us they  think they do  and think things scientifically.  In reality they often CUT short the logic required to do science well . I could go on - but it's D day for our dumb polys who don't ever call for  weeding out of these unfit , unqualified and parasitic  self determining half baked's who survive in these drip feed environments.---playing with science but not practicing it properly.

None us should be put off by the shallow talk of proof . It's often a dumb and ineffective timewaster leftover from our Greek heritage .
Proof arguments , as used now are most often an incomplete series of equations run directly by the proponent of their own idea - how objective is that?

"The world is chock full of people who find all the arguments they need to fact check their own conclusions . This is science done stupidly.

Stupid science is where correlation becomes the basis for complete causation . That is , yes to have correlation means you have a connection but its not the whole thing, or the direct thing !

It means  in practice,  you jump in and don't fix the real determinants . You try to insulate people from their own stupidity with  someone else's money ; You experiment all the time like the leaders  do on UTOPIA ABC . Endless experimentation at our expense and then ....none the wiser    

As any decent practical scientist knows - we, as a competent group are long winded . Too long winded and argumentative to ever ( one recently ) to have a consensus session on ABC TV  Q and A , The program producers are dumb enough to think "fact checking" will get us to heaven ( when it only gives us a headache )
Those who lead just don't get it  They are playing with permutations and combinations of facts they haven't  a hope of placing in a replicated experiment. They wouldn't even need know which established equations to use to keep the matter under control . Ignorant they give in too easily to fear .   We are not shallow and subject to the same fears therefore they do NOT represent us properly .

The ABC science departments and programs  are not even run by scientists and this has been going on for decades. It is supposed to be our ABC . What a disgrace to even think we can call ourselves the clever country .

 If you are a poly, get busy or get out !-- for our children's sake ---look at all the wasted degrees YOU have helped create over the last decades.   Kick em out and give our children the full careers ( not jobs)  they deserve because they studied to show themselves capable.

I think of that expression when I think of Shylocks dilemma in Merchant Of Venice . How to be a good Jew
Warren Mitchell ( Shylock) is so good as that side of us that is tough, principled and unyielding ( all good in their own way ) .  He's a cynical businessman - a symbol of the market and how it will screw  everybody - its therefore a play for our time . That's saying something when its been on the stage every year  for over 500 years.

Sometimes,  with all the pressures and real bad behaviour of others, it can seem that its best to just look after yourself , just as he does .

 His tough mindedness contrasts with Christians  whom he sees as "soft" making the battle in the play ( which will win -law or grace ) a really punchy one for all time . And what a fight it is . 

Who wins ? ( law or grace or,,,,,,,)---I'll let you find out !- even" the way and the  how "are now very much  part of our heritage in law ,love and mercy.

Shylock types make the historic mistake ( as early Rome did ) of seeing Christianity as weak. Its only weak if its watered down . It's certainly looks weak, but that's not our problem- most media talk and politics about it is superficial . 

We are wise to be fearful of the power of religion.
In the comfort zone lulls that characterize most of time in history, we seem to ignore this ; we are prone to pretend that one's faith its " irrelevant". World view is a given but its never irrelevant as it drives our passions - or lack of them .Ask any psychologist.

Lets be thoroughly realistic - people from an Islamic background see the modern secularist state as weak and IMO so should we .

The modern secularist leadership is increasingly fanatical about its hold on minds, hearts and power becauses "its simply not working "; As Donald Trumps empty headed rhetoric now so well symbolises,

If you want a deeper debate about what works in the West , follow Shylock and Portia --having been played every year for the past 500, the debate over law and grace in that play has sustainability . Law and grace the Christian way.

It is my view then that it is not the power of Islam that is the problem for the West, but the deep weakness and the shallow watered down determinism of the Post Christian world views of the West.

If we keep telling ourselves we are just products of our genes, we will stop using our minds. Our legs will turn to jelly.Our political legs have turned to jelly.

If you think something long enough you will start to believe it . The modern secular leadership preach this simple rubbish as gospel because its in the DNA of their faith that only genotype expressed as phenotype ( what your feel)that matters .Matter over mind ; "our minds are just propaganda machines ". ,

" Do what you feel like " doesn't work and we all know it deep down Its a religious doctrine that must be exorcised . .

As Dalrymple says , all we have left, after centuries of tough minded law and grace is" the toxic cult of sentimentality" - a sort of grace that doesn't work because the basic tension in law and grace is lost - half the solution is no solution.

Half baked PC theology just pays people to "do what they feel like" -killing off all the hard fought toughness and tough thinking resisting of the past -

Modern secular determinism, as practiced in the west, is a soft centered mind numbing addition to ambulance and helicopter based care by governments - not families and "courts" where a sense of responsibility can be taught.
