The ending in FIDDLER on the roof is not upbeat

Because the story goes on . Without the down times,  we may have no real vision of what really makes the good times come again. The  message is eternal unlike other imitations all around us
Those sort of Jews and that sort of thinking keeps cutting even today 

The latest STAR WARS - the force awkens has all this musicals family and familiar characters . It also is a visit to the dark side . But the unbelievable return home at the end is a con .

The millions who pour out of cinemas all over the world are unaware that that the next time son wants to kill dad, mum wants to kill dad or whatever,  they have learnt nothing from George  Lucas ,

Unlike Tevye to God and Tevye to his family and Tevye to his community  they haven't spoken freely about what makes the dark side dark and what to do about it .We kids always know better just like the men Teyve's daughets loved . : they too had their passions The greatest evil is still done in the name of the best intention  and our choices do matter. The greatest good is still in facing the dark side and following up with forgiveness and acceptance of people.

Remember too that this framing of faith in a workable hate for sin and love for the sinners is what resists,  with its own force , the insane consequences of trying to solve everyone else's problems politically( the Russia of their day with both Stalinism , communism and the Tsar)
