Very good news . The foundations need to be weeded around , just to be found. Truth affirmed by experience and testing; as "enough" for each new generation and people of every nation and culture to build on .

Mere facts distract
As a scientist who loves to be practical, I just love Chesterton quotes. Those of us who want to get on with life haven't got time to rely on a faith which only moves by known connections "" Tis too slow
Most of the modern world doesn't know the joy of leaping . Frightened by the latest fact, the secularists ( really technique worshipers) confine themselves to the barracks - the known equations nd the known salvations , They think of themselves as progressing but they are clearly only moving . As a newspaper man with clever friends like GB Shaw and HG Wells , he was a master of the art of trying to keep it simple and therefore punch hard ; not soft like most of us poorly educated "greek "pedants do .

Idolatry - still the worst disease in the world
Einstein and many other very thoughtful people, remind us that if God doesn't exist we will invent him. If we invent him he/she suffers from limitations we put on him . Not a good look . Whether its political power, political religion , politics dressed up as religion , technology , democracy , idealism, family , community or just anti God, it can never have the power of the God the Creator who also counsels us .
If God is there , why not find out before you commit to other things?
The books on that experience have been written and while its not finished , 1700 years ago the faithful of the time said - "keep it simple stupid "( God has had the story straight and is consistent in what he shows us ) .we still agree tha enough is enough in that regard ....and they never knew of our information overload age . Old is the basis for the new .We despise neither by holding them together.
Sustainable stuff is, of course , always growing under its own steam - a sound faith has a way of doing that while, as they said to Job , "idolaters get discouraged "- These objects are created good tools BUT they simply don't have the power we invest in them if we idolize them .
The good book starts with counsel and never stops promoting the idea even though we clearly don't listen all that well.
God can see further than we can ........but he offers us real insight if we do it his way (and real blindness if we don't)
Our thirst for knowledge is acknowledged in Genesis as a good thing if not granted in full , We risk more blindsiding , not less , if we don't accept his power , wisdom , nsight and ability to judge.
We need to worship - to know the proper order Our desire to worship is also good . Let no one suggest I am anti the use of technology because the biggest limitation to the use of appropriate technology( my website on it ) is the worship of technology ( Ellul)
Get the order right and things will work . God is a good manufacturer and technologist.
Genesis sets the scene.. best intentions are not enough
Eve and Adam had a good thing in mind, but it wasn't the best thing , God wants us to focus not just on good , but good better, best and then you can rest . Cain and Abel had a good thing in mind but Cain , in particular, didn't give his offering/worship object the right place .He killed , just as men kill today, because they have unresolved anger .The object of their worship doesn't help them resolve their anger.
God does not abandon Cain for his false hierarchy of worship, but he counsels Cain personally and discretely that "unless he deals well with his poor self concept and false worship failure " its his very anger that could cause him to kill and want to kill . Thus the first book sets the scene for all the rest . You can't rest until you find your rest in God; In offering God your life and worship you can find perfect ( complete) rest. It not all about you or the things he's given you - good as much as they are.
God is an ecologist - it was his idea ; he loves diversity
That's the problem with idolatry . Its not that the subject of our substitute worship isn't valuable-- its that to work it has to be in the right place. To be effective in the good interrelated working world he created we have to see and use everything in its proper place; Like good mothers - put things back where they belong after you have played with them . Boys and their toys -oh dear ; Not quite enough for happy families
God the sustainable source of hope -
That's what can make people rejoice after a hard days week . God can put all thing in their proper place and rest - just as we can do . No stress mate

We so want to give ourselves that high honor of being " the innovator" . To name things is seen by us a " to create things - it may not be true
To do so we often ignore those whose work we build on , whose distilled experiments were more thorough than ours and ,,,,,,last but not least ---the waste all our careless experimentation and superficial unscientific methodologies create
We ignore whats gone before ----- sometimes in case we were to discover ( what a paradox) that we are actually plagerizing / reinventing it and would lose our perceived place in the halls of our own brilliance

The good old Woosy West
Are we into real reconciliation or real peace based on respect for our differences ?. Do we not talk biodiversity but seek a false kind of unity at the expense of respect for genuine diversity?
- Cell walls, though the origin of life, are now, for the new idealist , just fences we need to remove in order for "the wonder of love and peace to happen" . I think not , as do our children, who know the Hunger Games are closer to reality --the really nice games we play or try to play when we ignore what sort of say DNA has --- our mind games are shallow and pathetic .
Are we 2 , too preoccupied with peace at any price? Jesus thought so ( He came to bring a sword) , Martin L King thought so ,Bonhoeffer thought so , Churchill thought so
Chamberlain and Shaw ( who let the last war happen) didn't think . Like so many in our age C&S just felt and left it there ( a sort faith you have when you claim you haven't got one?) --This hide in the dark and hope idea is fine when yiur fed for your fine talk but it never enough for people on the cutting edge --with minds sharpened by experience, by minds they and we should all use. Its the Genius of the West to see and feel the real threats of both words and power - To know when war starts means you can stop it . When people START the fight by breaking the 9th Commandment and call the other " condemned " . Arguments they/we should have ----- even with God !
We are , after all , the greatest army of armchair emperors , but maybe , the only thing we know for sure is we are dead if the net goes down, or if our wife tells us to get offline and get into washing up .
In more modern times, Dalrymple knows so (Too preoccupied with peace at any price) and so do sensible Muslims and anyone observing what a lack of moral framework does to our weak family and cultural experiments .We in the West are a wishy washy joke!
If you want to call yourself a realist - take seriously what others say about you and your family - otherwise we would all question whether you are in denial ,Our cultural leaders may in now desperate days blame "the poison of religion" , but its the failure of their own religion and its dominance over a mere 100 years, that's got us to be the silly immobile and unmoved ( moving on - just a hope ?) sentimentalists so well described by Dalrymple .
Where is the West's fighting spirit ? Lost in a lot of niceties ?
Even Shaw , Orwell , Huxley and Weber would be agast at what we now expect of government - to mind us as though we were children
Where is our strength to fight ?. Is it as Peter Watson would have it - in Germany ( The German Genius) or even earlier .The dumb thing is that Peter and his failing ilk thinks its technology ( matter not mind )
For us then ? Are words important or are we following the dreadfully dumb myth that says we are locked into our DNA - if you are not Aryrian ....their is.no hope for you ? According to peter ? .
I'm certainty not locked in as an ecologist and practical person. I hope whenever adrenalin comes, I talk to it and reason with it just as we must do to restore our sanity in the West.
Biodiversity exists not because of a sense of unity , but because of a deep respect for each group and there ideas/ fixed positions
If we are going to avoid a deadly fight , we fight fair, we talk we talk openly about differences and learn to respect them. Too much armchair has always been dangerous so its not just Internet there to frighten us.

If you have the patience to listen to post moderns discussing something that " worries "them ( that word in itself is a worry) you get the impression they would never, like the reporters in "Scoop ' ( E Waugh ) gather enough fire to blast them out of their seats of discomfort.
